Highland Homes prides themselves on quality of construction. The construction of the home was horrible. There were over 50 discrepancies in our home when we purchased it. The craftmanship was terrible. The home reminded me of a habitat for humanity home which was put together by volunteers who were not experts in construction. After nearly 2 months in the home we are still dealing with repairs and have a long way to go.

Not a pleasant experience at all. Cabinets have been one of the worse experiences we have so far in this house. Workmanship is not good at all. Backyard has issues with leaking water. None of the issues post closing have been addressed so far. It’s like they want to wait for a year, so we even run out of 1yr warranty. 1. BACKYARD : a. When they installed the SOD looks like someone has walked with heavy boots and the backyard is uneven. My cousin has already sprained her ankle just by walking in the backyard and we have stopped using it. b. Our side yard is always damp. They tried installing some drain but nothing seems to work so far. It still DAMP. May be a leak or something. c. There is more weed than the grass and was very disaapointed to see so much weed in the first month after we moved. They have already done one weed treatment and looks like that didnt help much. 2. CABINETS : It has been a pain to work with ACW cabinets. The doors were never aligned properly. There were few things that were broke and needed to be addressed . They already showed up twice and we are still waiting for things to be addressed completely. a. Oven needs to adjusted correctly to cover the gap. b. pot drawer needs to be adjusted, looks like the gas pipe is causing some issues here. There are some doors in the kitchen with adjustment issues and were never addressed. ACW has already given up on this. c. some replacement items in kitchen island and master bath. ACW showed up like 2 months ago and they said they are placing order for new parts and they never came back. 3. Other minor issues which shouldnt take time but still pending. a. one of the chandeliers has a broken globe. b. Garage insulation has a hole from inside. c. one of the plates needs to be adjusted near water heater. ... More

The finance part of our home buying was fantastic. No complaints there, but the construction part of the home buying is horrible. The workmanship of our house is very poor and the value for the price paid is not worth it. The response to issues is a joke. I have purchased homes before and this is by far the worst experience I have ever encountered. Highland should be ashamed of presenting their homes to buyers like this. Truly a lack of customer service. Customer service is what makes America great. I am an unsatisfied home buyer and I will never purchase from Highland again in the future or recommend anyone to do so either. ... More

I've had 4 builds in under15 years and this has been my worst experience. (My previous builders were Lennar, Castle Rock, and Long Lake Ltd...wonder builders, experience, and quality of work) COVID-19 and logistics had no bearing on oversight/quality of craftsmanship. (Excuse used "TRUST THE PROCESS" it will be corrected in the end...I can't trust the process when I don't have experienced Project Management/Oversight). I've been in my home 90 days and still have unfinished work. Highland Meridiana will be receiving a poor BBB Report to make customers aware... Foundation: Blueprints not followed I even told the PM prior to them pour the foundation yet they had to tear-up bust bathroom foundation to move tub plumbing. Foundation poured on raining misty day my back porch and garage are horribly finished due to weather conditions. Driveway: Poorly done cracks/major breaks (redone because I requested it. Structure: Poor Material Used damaged lumber used (identified by me and external inspector) Dry Wall had severe waives in master bedroom I Identified and had them redo. Craftsmanship: Rework/Sloppy work, unable to make proper 45 degree cuts to form 90 degree angles. Front window over garage was not level (spouse identified...PM swore it was taping...yet after putting a level on it it was deemed un-level. Arched windows were not insulated properly...I identified prior to dry walling, Door Frames broken in 3 rooms they attempted to just paint over or add caulking to hide again I identified and had them correct the issue. Second story floors not screwed securely squeaky/sounded like paper when walking on them. Carpet not properly stretched seams in most notable places Dripping paint....redo, loose stair treads redo; bad cabinets redo, as you can see it a theme of poor quality work with constant rework. Front door unlevel insects able to enter through top. Water sprinkler system two zones failed, rewire. Lights flicker in home when AC or Vacuum turns on, Garage door, squeak tremendously with large knocking sound. Dishwasher repaired 3 times, then finally replaced. Vent hood installers 3 separate trades 90 days still not installed...(Parts on back order...etc ordering wrong parts...lack of oversight) $700K Lemon...I wish there was a Lemon Law for Homes I would give this one back if SO! I purchased it recently and found the water leakage in the two-bedroom and still working on and not yet finished the work. so many defects in the home.

Worst customer service evern I have seen in my life

Worst buying home experience ever. Quality of home is horrendous

To mention a few issues, The home was not ready to be delivered on the day of close with construction taking place the day off closing, tile pieces and dust all over master bathroom, supplies left throughout the home, and countless issues to follow. The home is still not complete 2 months post closing.

I closed on my home on 12/27/2021. The condition of the home when I received it should not be something Highland is proud of. The carpet was not completed. There was an entire closet that wasn't carpeted, the carpet on the stairs was loose, and carpet was sticking up in several corners. I received the wrong stove and I am still waiting for the correct one. My bathrooms are still missing mirrors and the master bath does not have the shower door, vanity lights, or the glass to separate the shower and bathtub. I have closets that don't have the rods to hang clothes. I have paint on railings and paint isn't complete. The little square pieces at the bottom of the railing are all loose. The sprinkler system does not work properly. We have not received our chandelier yet but the unfinished home next door has their's. Also, the unfinished home next door seems farther along than my home. I just think it's crazy that the house was turned over in the condition it was in. The back yard was a mess and there was urine on a toilet seat. Just didn't seem much pride or priority was taken in building my home. We aren't a priority. Also, why isn't there insulation in the interior walls? The toilet in the master bathroom sits right against the living room wall and you can hear everything. As first time home buyers we entrusted Highland to build our dream home and Highland has failed us. Highland hasn't reached out in an attempt to right the wrongs. It's been a miserable experience. I was very surprised at the rudeness of building construction mgr. Shane H. The house slab not level, roof has studs pushing shingles in a lot of roof areas, kitchen cabinets color miss match and drawers get stuck, windows not square floor molding not level and open in lots of areas, washing machine room has missing tile, front entry slab not level (during rain entry flooded)all this after only one month in house. I love bigger house but not poor workmanship. High priced but over all poor workmanship and management of build. I now feel like a number not personal person homeowner. DO NOT BUY A Highland Home. Highland homes built us a shoddy substandard house. We have been filing warranty claims several times a week since we moved in due to all sorts of problems. We closed almost two months ago and still can’t use our kitchen cabinets. We paid for so many upgrades, not only were the materials cheap but the labor/install were shoddy, sloppy, careless, just outright unprofessional. The builder told us this is how it is in San Antonio. They will never be as good as the Dallas area. We should lower our standards/expectations. How comforting! We bought brand new homes before from other builders and remodeled a couple of homes. We never seen such shoddy substandard work ever. Even my husband's DIYs are better. The trades here are an embarrassment to the industry. They have no shame in building crappy houses. ZERO standards. The so-called professional painters don't use blue tape and tilers don't use spacers. Our kitchen backsplash looks awful and our cabinets are not usable. The shelves are cut too short and several of them started peeling before we even moved in. Scratches and dents everywhere on countertop, doors, trims, appliances, and messy paint jobs. Did not follow through on work or promises. Awful work ethic, many mistakes were made and not fixed. Poor work quality, things were left out and messy, extremely unprofessional.

I closed on my home in March and builder still has not completed my master bath. Upgrades that were paid for were never installed. Untrustworthy project managers! I had my home inspected before closing and manager said he fixed problems and never did! I’ve had to put in so many warranty requests, I’ve lost count! My husband and I rearrange our schedules to accommodate them and they are constant no call, no show. We are contacting our attorney. Enough is enough! We paid so much money for this house. The sales rep was untrustworthy and the builder still has not completed our house after he said he would finish everything up the week after closing. It has been three months and we still have blue tape in our house.

The CHEAPEST labor and materials are used but they Charge you a premium. They gave us an incomplete home stating everything would be done prior to close. Instead they rely on the warranty and that takes months to complete. So instead of enjoying a new home, you are dealing with the incompetency of the builders and the terrible contractors they use for months on end. Joseph and Giovanni give you a ton of attitude if you point things out that are done with poor quality, not done at all or done incorrectly. I could keep going but won’t. Bottom line...STAY AWAY!

Terrible experience with builder. House was not 100% completed. Warranty feels like I'm asking I'm begging. Would not recommend

We've owned multiple homes and are disappointed in the details of this VERY EXPENSIVE house. Everyone provided awesome service UNTIL WE CLOSED. Then they GHOSTED. Two months in and we still don't have the items on the "closing list" completed and the warranty service is a BAD JOKE. You submit a request and MAYBE they will come out in 4 to 6 weeks. I don't actually know since our items are still open 4 to 6 weeks later. When we moved in, none of our Low-E worked, there was a FULL SIZE tool backing up our bathroom drains (they said they scoped the lines), I couldn't use the lights in my living room and turn on the disposal because there was a short and half of our electrical panel pops on a very regular basis. Our kitchen cabinets are full-out cracking in various places (and not at the seams). There are cracks in almost every bathroom grout, baseboards, door frames and walls. I’ve lost count of the popped nails which the warranty “manager” says they won’t even address until the “1 year service”. Then there are the floor plans. They sacrifice function for design in EVERY AREA OF THE HOUSE. They are pretty houses, but do not function well. (Think lack of linen closets and that you will probably have to buy all new furniture for every room and not even your washer and dryer fit in the laundry room.) ... More

I have had a number of issued with my Highland home and do many issues have not been addressed even sfter submitting warranty tockets over 1 month ago. I have continued to submit tickets without committed dates of resolution. Considering the expense of the home we expected a higher quality buildout. The frustration is.magnified with the lack of response seen to date.

High price and poor costumer service

1. Buyer selections and design gallery experience was horrible. Samples were extremely small. Everything cost "extra", there was no cost breakdown to compare the cost of what was included in the contract vs. the "extra" costs. 2. Misleading advertisement of what was included in the purchase of the home. Some items were "discontinued" after purchase. Had to fight to receive a credit that was not commensurate to the item that was "deleted". 3. Quality of work was horrible. As home buyer, we had to point out things that they did not install, including missing an entire bathroom under slab plumbing. Some items caught in time to eliminate demolition and repair of work completed. 4. Initial builder (superintendent) was extremely rude and somewhat confrontational. The replacement builder was very kind and helpful, however the post builder is as rude as the initial. 5. Quality of work is below what should be expected for a house costing almost 1/2 million. Safety, Housekeeping, Security • Beer cans and trash consistently found in and around build site • Contractors smoking inside of house • Trash and food left in house attracting pests (raccoon removed from attic) • Contractors not observing signs for “no shoes”, dirt and rocks on wood floor and carpets • General disregard for safety (e.g. roofers not tied off, makeshift ladders, etc.) • Houses with flooring, carpets, fixtures left unsecured and in some cases doors/windows ajar Management Oversight • No insight into management decision making process • No explanation or understanding of escalation protocol for raising buyer concerns • Inconsistent supervision and communication to contractors (e.g. placement of A/C condensers) • Poor work-load management and support of construction supervisors (constantly overwhelmed) • Reference construction drawings only when convenient for builder Sales Counselors • Frequently pompous and dismissive in almost all interactions, including initial visit with realtor • Tend to act like buyer requests and concerns are a joke (literally laughing in some instances) • Drag feet on decisions then make urgent demands, making it seem like buyer is causing delay • Attempt to document misleading information on change orders • Incomplete and/or vague descriptions of change items (some missed completely) Quality of Workmanship • Overall sloppiness in workmanship (e.g. tiling, door trim, painting, plumbing hardware, etc.) • Lack of ownership in work (e.g. dented fireplace, scratched appliances, etc.) • Seem to take the “easy” route at every opportunity rather than doing the job “right” ... My experience was horrible had some problems at the house that were supposed to be taken care of and our builder never answered our calls anymore

Extremely disappointed with workmanship and “their process”. Re-doing things 4 & 5 times is not a process. It’s poor quality & oversight. There was basically none. We had to be there everyday to point out the errors which for the most part they ignored. We would not recommend Highland Homes based on this experience. We’ve built numerous homes between the two of us and none of them have been this poor.

After 1 month closing. The grand new AC has issues. AC leaking water down to the ceiling and dripped to the floor. Highland Contractor just repaint the effected area. Big Tex still don’t know what happened to the AC. Same thing happened after 2 weeks. Called Big Tex Emergency many times nobody respond. Very disappointed.

Had the worst experience working with the sales people. Treated horribly by sales folks they did everything they could to try to get me to leave or cancel my contract because had a buyer that was willing to pay the full asking price.
