Uptown Dallas is located north of Downtown Dallas. It is a thriving, energetic area and one of with the best city developments found in Dallas. In fact, these developments are some of the reasons why this area is such a sought after real estate area in the whole city. One of the reasons this neighborhood is so popular has to do with the walkability factor. This neighborhood is the most pedestrian friendly area in Dallas. Living spaces, businesses and entertainment areas are centered in a hub making traveling to these spots a breeze.
Uptown Dallas is bordered by the Central Expressway, East Haskell Avenue, Brookhout Street and the Woodall Rodgers Highway. This area is often regarded as a grand example of what the urbanist planning movement is about – more walking spaces and multi-use amenities. Uptown is also close to the Katy Trail, a pedestrian trail that cuts across Dallas, connecting the downtown/CBD areas with Uptown Dallas. If walking, jogging or biking is not your thing, then you’ll be glad to know that Uptown Dallas has different commuter transportation options. You can hail a Yellow Cab that has a 24-hour service, or you could try the unique electric shuttle known as EFROGS. You can also hop on the McKinney Avenue Transit trolley that will take you virtually everywhere you need to go in Uptown. The trolley and EFROGS are great for short distances. Whatever you choose, you can always expect a smooth ride.
Uptown Dallas predominantly contains condos and townhomes in part due to how densely populated this area is and the lack of space common in this area. Regardless of space, you can expect the same amenities found in large family homes including the latest energy efficient home technologies. Uptown is characterized by its modern architecture, but if you want skip the condo and townhome life, there are other options to choose. State Thomas is a quaint, little enclave with brownstones and brick-lined streets. This area attracts a large number of young residents who are attracted to the urban setting and the large lots available in the area. This availability of land has spawned master-planned communities and gated communities throughout Uptown Dallas.
If you are a shopaholic, you might want to visit West Village, which has a lot of prime shopping spaces located in this busy part of town. There are a couple of specialty stores like Cowboy Cool, which specializes in Cowboy boots, and Nicole Kwon Concept Store, which sells high-end apparel, that are popular in this area.
Schools in Uptown Dallas are located within the Dallas Independent School District. One of the best schools in the area is William B. Travis Academy – also known as the Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted. There are an additional number of public and private schools that offer quality education in the area permitting every child to receive quality education.
