Hidden within Florida’s vast swathes of greenery is a small town called Weeki Wachee, which aptly translates into “little springs”. The city is best known for its crystal-clear spring waters and forested trails. It has been a spot of fun and splash for many generations and still pulls a considerable crowd towards its addicting beauty.
The Weeki Wachee Springs is the centerpiece of the town. It is a natural tourist attraction with a history that goes back to 1982. The waterpark has found its niche and delivers a unique mermaid show that dazzles kids and adults alike. The mermaid tag has made this little town quite famous, thanks to Kelly Clarkson's music video "Stronger”, which features mermaids from this waterpark. Apart from its mystical mermaids, every water adventure finds its duty-bound place here. From kayaking & canoeing to adrenalin-pumped water sports, the state park has everything you desire.
When you are tired of the water, you can shoot off for adventurous hikes in the Weeki Wachee Preserve, a gigantic and pristine, 11,206-acre land, ripe for camping, hiking, biking, and fishing. This is also the starting point of the Great Florida Birding Trail and is visited by a diverse range of Aves. Being a preserve, you can also hop on to the many local eco-tours of the region. The Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area falls towards the western side of the preserve and is a great place to get up close to the Floridian wildlife.
The actual city forms at the amalgamation of Commercial Way and Cortez Boulevard. The Commercial Way is a continuation of State Route 19 and extends north towards Lake City and south towards Tampa. Spring Hills forms the metropolitan core for Weeki Wachee and its downtown is just 11 minutes away. You will find most modern amenities within a half-an-hour drive. The Coastal Way is the de-facto shopping mall for the region and has an equal number of retailers and restaurants.
